Frequently Asked Questions

What are some reasons people go to therapy?

Therapy isn't just for crisis. You can go to therapy to:

  • Make good relationships great.

  • improve your relationship with yourself.

  • Thrive in your career.

  • Become the best version of yourself + Embody your soul purpose

  • Find new ways to make this world a better place.

  • Preparing for a transition like a job or move

  • You also may choose to come if you feel like you have hit rock bottom + are noticing changes in your daily functioning, your mood, thoughts + relationships.

Who is your ideal client?

This is one of my favorite questions! My ideal client is high achieving women who struggle with low self-esteem, depression , anxiety, people-pleasing & perfectionism. These issues, that are typically a result of unprocessed trauma, (from racism to patriarchy to childhood experiences) influences the internal dialogue getting in the way of how they see themselves. These women are interested in reconnecting with their emotions & return home to themselves with compassion. Someone who knows that there is more out there for them + they are ready to lean into it. Someone who is courageous, & I work best with people who are WILLING to do the work.

What is your therapeutic style? How would you describe a session?

My approach is directive, transparent, collaborative & full of compassion. What that means is I understand the human experience, I recognize that most of us are just doing our best with what we have. So I believe that in order to do things differently it requires curiosity & compassion towards these behaviors to really allow for sustainable change. I am very eclectic to say the least. I am trained in EDMR, internal family systems, CBT, Trauma Focused Therapies + DBT so you can expect a mixture depending on your presenting concerns. I use these modalities and transfer it to everyday skills. My clients often tell me that in therapy with me they feel safe, seen, + supported. I have been told that my sessions are like working with someone who will snatch your edges (so bring your castor oil) + help you put them back on. a “compassionate edge snatcher” if you will. I like to think that means I am supporting clients with a whole lot of honesty + even more compassion. My job is to hold space & help you navigate the chaos of life … by helping you meet this version of you with love and care.

Do you take insurance?

Yes, I do. I currently ONLY accept BlueCross BlueShield NC + United Healthcare/Optum. I also accept Loveland vouchers & Lyra EAP. I DO NOT accept insurance for couple’s therapy. Please be reminded that when using insurance I am required to provide your records + diagnosis information to insurance companies if they are requested. See more on this below.

Will I get a mental health diagnosis?

If you plan to use health insurance to pay for treatment, insurance companies and employee assistance programs require that you receive a mental health diagnosis in order to access benefits. This mental health diagnosis becomes part of your permanent medical record. We will discuss and inform you of any relevant or applicable diagnosis. Please consider this information when determining whether private pay, or filing with your insurance, is the desired payment option for you. A diagnosis can also be provided, upon request, for clients participating in private pay sessions.

How long will treatment last?

Treatment length varies and depends largely on your therapeutic goals. You may prefer brief, solution-focused methods and can enjoy "results" in 4-6 weeks. Practicing & learning new skills are likely to result even after your first session. You may also utilize these visits as a way to explore and brainstorm ideas, thoughts, and beliefs or face larger, more complex issues while utilizing therapeutic benefits for a longer period of time.

What do I need to bring?

Initial Session/Clinical Assessment: Insurance card, photo identification, method of payment, relevant intake paperwork & any medical records or documentation that you believe your therapist would benefit from reviewing. Before your first appointment, you will be sent an invitation to access your client portal via SimplePractice. Most intake documentation is completed electronically. Please connect directly with your provider if you need support completing the intake forms.

Ongoing Sessions: Method of payment (if this differs from what is stored in your client profile); If at any time your insurance coverage changes, please let us know as soon as possible in order to avoid billing discrepancies.

Many clients can benefit from keeping a journal throughout their therapy visits. Journaling tends to be very helpful since it serves as a single, personal place to track happenings throughout the week. You're more than welcome to take notes during sessions with your provider if this feels right.

How often will we meet?

To begin, we will meet once a week. I find it’s important to gain some momentum in the beginning by meeting weekly or progress can stall out. Once some or all of your goals are met, meeting less often will make sense.

What can I expect from therapy?

Once you have made a decision to see a therapist, you still might be apprehensive about the process. Many people feel nervous before their first appointment. Therapy is a shared journey; a shared process. And, although you and I will travel together, it is ultimately your journey and you will make your own decisions. I do not have answers to all your concerns, but I do have the ability to listen carefully and will ask thoughtful questions. Your answers to these questions will help shape the direction of our work. You can expect to be respected. You can expect that I will offer interactive feedback & suggestions from time to time but I will not tell you what to do.
